Position Summary

Under the direction of the Oncology Clinical Manager, the Pharmacy Clinical Specialist ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients. Responsibilities include providing drug information to patients and families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The specialist will also educate pharmacists, residents, and students, and serve as a resource and drug expert in hematology/oncology. Coordination of drug therapy acquisition, distribution, and control is also part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure optimal medication use and resolve drug-related issues.
  • Provide drug information to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Educate pharmacists, residents, and students.
  • Serve as a resource and drug expert in hematology/oncology.
  • Engage in research and writing activities to enhance knowledge.
  • Coordinate drug therapy acquisition, distribution, and control as necessary.

Candidate Profile

Educational Requirements:
Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with an advanced degree.

Experience:
PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residency or at least three years of equivalent work experience.

Licensure:
Valid license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the date of hire.
Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BCOP) certification preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Deep knowledge of medications, drug interactions, medical procedures, therapies, diagnosis, and disease states.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for interaction with hospital staff, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills and well-written documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; additional language skills are a plus.
  • Self-management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Process improvement skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
